Fill the bucket with warm water plus either a squeeze of washing-up liquid or the prescribed amount of general purpose surface or floor cleaner — make sure the water comes well below the bit where you squeeze the mop.
Dip the mop in the water and squeeze out well; you don't want water sloshing around especially on laminates where excess water can cause the surface to lift.
Start in one corner and mop the floor in front of you making sure you get into the corners and edges. On tiled floors don't forget the grouting between the tiles.
Dip and squeeze at regular intervals. Don't do too much with one mop-full otherwise you will be spreading the dirt around rather than removing it.
Change the water in the bucket as soon as it looks obviously dirty.
Empty the bucket, rinse out, fill with clean, hot water and rinse out the mop.
Empty the bucket again, refill with clean, warm water and, squeezing as much water as possible out of the mop, go over the whole floor again — this may seem a bit of an effort but you may be surprised to see how much more dirt you pick up.
